Object of the Day 3 – Seashell Basket

Gullah basket with shells

Seashells are so seductive. The thrill of the hunt for the perfect unbroken specimen lures mile after mile along the shore until you are far from where you started. I didn't find these beautiful unbroken lion's paw and murex shells.  Clam and conch shells are the usual finds with  shells. Someone somewhere gifted them to us. The basket is a Gullah basket from South Carolina, a thank you for looking after a friend's pet.

The Gullah traditionally lived along the coastal areas of North and South Carolina, Georgia,  and Florida. They are descendants of people taken from around Sierra Leone in the 18th C.
